India Rough Diamond Trade $826.5 Million in June

India imported $769.57 million worth of rough diamonds in June, a 43.3 percent decline from the year before, according to data published Thursday by the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC).

 

In volume, 13.57 million carat of rough was imported into the diamond manufacturing center, a 9 percent decline compared to June 2008. This translates into a low per carat average of $56.71.

 

Rough diamond exports, of 1.72 million carats carried a stated value of $56.9 million, an average of $33.08 per carat. Year-over-year, exports fell 43 percent in volume and 38.7 percent in value.

 

Total rough diamond trade in June reached $826.47 million, with net imports totaling $712.86 million.
