Belgium Rough Diamond Trade $918 Million in August

Belgium exported in August 5 million carats of rough diamonds worth $402.39 million. The exports are far below the level seen in August 2008, some 26 percent and 39.5 percent below, respectively.

Rough diamond imports fell even further, dropping 30.6 percent in volume to 6.6 million carats and by 44.9 percent to $516.21 million. Total trade totaled $918 million on a volume of 11.68 million carats.

Imports of rough diamonds exceeded exports by $113.82 million, as all major producers brought goods to the market.
