Belgium's Net Polished Diamond Exports $21.49 million in October

Belgium exported in October 645,055 carats of polished diamonds worth $785.49 million, averaging $1,217.71 per carat. These exports are a 5.5 percent decline in volume and a 13.2 percent decline in value, according to data published on Friday by the Antwerp World Diamond Centre Diamond Office.

 

Net exports of 10,336 carats valued at $21.49 million averaged $2,078.69 p/c.

 

Some 31 percent of gross exports, $241.65 million, were to the U.S., a decline of 22.7 percent compared to October 2008. The average value of exports to the U.S. stood at $1,946.78 p/c.

 

Exports to Hong Kong, the second leading destination, grew by 22.4 percent to $101.04 million worth of goods, averaging $1,250.09 p/c, further solidifying its growing importance.

 

In the first ten months of 2009 Belgium exported a net of $511.94 million worth of goods. However, an over hang of 189,186 carats has been accumulated.
