More Shoppers Shopping Online For Holiday Deals on 'Cyber Monday'

November 23, 09 by Edon Ophir

This year, 53.5 percent of U.S. consumers, or 68.8 million people, will be doing their holidays shopping at work, a survey released November 23 by Shop.org found. Accordingly, most retailers have prepared special promotions for these consumers.

The survey, which polled over 8,500 consumers, found that three-fourths (73.8 percent) of young adults 18-24 will shop at work and that men are 5 percent more likely to shop from work than woman (56.3 percent vs. 50.8 percent).

On the retail side, Shop.org's eHoliday Study found that almost nine in ten retailers (87.1 percent) will have a special promotion for Cyber Monday, up from 83.7 percent last year and 72.2 percent in 2007.

The term Cyber Monday was coined in 2005 to describe the influx of online shopping that occurred the Monday after Thanksgiving.

According to the survey, which polled 70 retailers, the most popular Cyber Monday promotions will include specific deals (42.9 percent), one-day sales (32.9 percent), and free shipping on all purchases (15.7 percent).

Among the jewelry retailers offering online bargains, Ice.com is currently featuring two special offers through CyberMonday.com, which include a 20 percent of discount on all jewelry purchased online and a 1 carat diamond sterling silver bracelet, with a retail value of $400, for $95.

Blue Nile is offering 20 percent off select jewelry items on their website with the use of a special coupon code, also via CyberMonday.com, in addition to free FedEx shipping on all orders through the end of the year.

Zales is offering larger savings, with 20-70 percent off their traditional retail prices every day through December 31. Bargain hunters can turn to QVC, which is selling jewelry gifts for under $100 at QVC.com, also through December 31.

Online shoppers looking for unique, yet affordable, diamond jewelry can try eBay, which launched a feature to build your own diamond ring ahead of the holiday season at diamonds.ebay.com.
