Botswana Diamond Exports $347.5M in November

January 18, 11 by Edahn Golan

(IDEX Online News)
- Botswana exported $347.5 million worth of diamonds in November 2010, growing 55.4 percent compared to November 2009 and 12.9 percent when compared to the immediately preceding month, October.

The escalation in diamond mining in the country and the rebound in global rough diamond prices have pushed up the value of diamond exports by 60.3 percent in the first 11 months of 2010 to a total of $2.71 billion in constant exchange rates.

The figures, published by the Bank of Botswana in its monthly report, also show that the value of gold exports is also rising sharply. In the eleven month period, gold exports totaled $61 million, compared to $38 million in the whole of 2009 and $54.5 million in 2008.
