The IDEX Online Polished Price Report for September 27, 2012

(IDEX Online News) – Following the disappointing Hong Kong trade fair, the price declines in round-cut diamonds are increasing. In contrast, Fancy cuts are stable, with another week of price rises in the +0.80 size range.

 

Following are some of the changes in this week's IDEX Online Diamond Price Report.

Rounds

  • 0.18-0.22 cts D / SI1 goods decline another 3.5% this week, listing at $1,400 per carat (p/c)
  • 0.23-0.29 cts H / SI1 and I / VS2 keep declining
  • 0.30-0.39 cts a few decreases in top colors mid clarities
  • 0.45-0.49 cts IF-VVS2 weakening
  • 0.50-0.69 cts higher colors suffering from continuing price losses
  • 0.70-0.79 cts declines are widening in F-K colors
  • 0.80-0.89 cts the declines of the past few weeks are continuing, as these size range is losing favor
  • 0.90-0.99 cts G, I / IF and I-K / I2 goods are losing ground
  • 1.00-1.24 cts mid clarity DEF goods are starting to lose ground as suppliers lower prices by about 3%
  • 1.25-1.49 cts pique goods had another week of price declines, joined by NM / VVS goods
  • 2 cts holding steady except N / VS2 and I1, down 2.1% and 3.6%, respectively
  • 3 cts H / I1 down 2.8% to $7,000 p/c
  • 4 cts GHI / I1 slide by ~ 2% this week
  • 5 cts K / SI2 down 2.7% to $11,000 p/c

Fancy Cuts

  • Another week of steady prices for 0.18-0.22 cts goods
  • 0.23-0.29, no price changes
  • 0.30-0.39 cts E / VS1 -2.7% to $1,800 p/c
  • 0.40-0.44 cts unchanged
  • 0.45-0.49 cts E / VVS2 down 2.0 percent after last week's increase
  • 0.50-0.69 cts GHI pique goods slipping, E / IF up 3.6% to $4,350 p/c
  • 0.70-0.79 cts remain in demand, specifically better colors in the mid-clarity ranges up 3%-5%
  • Yet another week of wide price increases among the 0.80-0.89 cts size goods, widening to E-N / IF-SI1 goods, up 3%-4.7%. G / IF down 2.9% to $4,950 p/c
  • 0.90-0.99 cts goods in demand
  • 1.00-1.24 cts in growing demand, gaining as much as 3%
  • 1.25-1.49 cts prices increase in mid color/clarity goods H-L / I1 down 3.3%-5.0%
  • 1.50-1.99 cts are in good demand, J color goods in particular
  • 2 cts goods are in continued demand, especially mid-clarity I color goods
  • 3 cts F / VS1 softening, I / IF-VVS2 up 2.9%
  • 4 cts no changes
  • 5 cts no changes
