Cynthia Carroll Appointed as De Beers Chairman

(IDEX Online News) – Cynthia Carroll, Chief Executive of Anglo American plc, has been appointed to the role of chairman of the board of De Beers Société Anonyme, with immediate effect.

Two members of Anglo American’s Group Management Committee – Brian Beamish, Group director of Mining & Technology, who has more than 30 years of mining experience across base and precious metals; and Peter Whitcutt, Group director of Strategy & Business Development, who has more than 20 years of experience with Anglo American in a number of senior finance and strategy roles – were also appointed to the board.
“I am honored to accept the role of chairman of this great company,” said Carroll. “Anglo American has been a shareholder in De Beers since 1926. That shared history between Anglo American and De Beers has given me a deep appreciation for the business and the unique nature of diamonds.”
