Angola Sees 2013 Revenues of $1.6B From Sale of 11.7M Carats

August 18, 13 by Albert Robinson

(IDEX Online News) – Angola's revenues from sales of 11.7 million carats this year will come to around $1.57 billion, making it Africa's third-largest diamond producer after Botswana and South Africa.

Meanwhile, production for 2014 is seen rising further, said Geology and Mining Minister Francisco Queiroz. "For next year the production will be 12.8 million diamond carats with a $1.85 billion ($179.2 million) value," Africa Review cited him as saying.

In 2011, Angola sold 8.32 million carats, earning revenues of $1.2 billion.

The Angolan government is reaching out to foreign investors in a bid to create large-scale development of the country's diamond sector.
