Gemstar Buys 2,000-Carat Emerald at Zambia Auction

August 16, 13 by

(IDEX Online News) – Israeli emerald manufacturer Gemstar acquired a 2,000-carat emerald at an auction of rough emeralds and beryls from the Kagem mine in Zambia.

Eshed did not reveal the price paid for the 2,000-plus-carat-piece he acquired.

Zambia's First Lady, Dr. Christine Kaseba, met with Gemstar head Avraham Eshed during a tour of the high-quality emerald auction.

The recent auction, organized by Gemfields which owns the Kagen mine, resulted in revenues of $31.5 million, with an average price per carat of $54.

The auction featured a total of 583,448 carats of emeralds from the Kagem mine, with all lots reported sold.
