Colored Diamonds to Highlight at Christie’s New York Sale

September 10, 13 by Albert Robinson

(IDEX Online News)
– The standout items from Christie’s New York Magnificent Jewels sale on October 15 are likely to be three colored diamonds.

They include an 8.77-carat, rectangular cut fancy intense pink diamond ring with a presale estimate of $5.5 million-$6.5 million, a 3.81-carat, cushion cut fancy vivid blue diamond ring estimated to sell in the range of $2.5 million to $3.5 million, and a 5.13-carat, square cut fancy vivid yellow diamond ring with a presale estimate of $200,000 to $300,000.

Christie's forecasts that the 400-lot auction will raise more than $40 million.

Rahul Kadakia, the head of jewelry for Christie’s Americas and Switzerland, said,  “It was an unprecedented season for Christie’s this spring, having achieved three world record breaking diamond sales in New York, Geneva and Hong Kong.

"For the first major fall sale in New York, our team of jewelry specialists have traveled the globe to gather the finest quality diamonds, emeralds, rubies, sapphires and rare vintage jewels from notable estates and private collections. In anticipation of a continued strong market, we look forward to offering collectors the best in the world of jewelry auctions.”

Among items from private collections, there is the “Mystery Set” sapphire, diamond and colored diamond Argentine flag brooch that belonged to Eva Peron and designed by Van Cleef & Arpels. The brooch was last sold at auction in April 1998 for $992,500.

There is also a 17.00-carat, F, rectangular-cut diamond with a presale estimate of $500,000-$700,000, and a pave set diamond link necklace by Boucheron (presale estimate of $80,000-$120,000). In addition, there is a 16.21-carat, I, rectangular-cut diamond ring by Lorraine Schwartz which carries a presale estimate of $300,000-$500,000.
