Christie’s New York to Auction 52.58-Ct Golconda Diamond

November 21, 13 by Danielle Max

A Jewelry Sale at Christie's

(IDEX Online News) – The final jewelry sale of the year at Christie’s New York will feature a 52.58-carat D-color internally flawless Golconda diamond.

The diamond exhibits a “superior polish and octagonal cutting style, a diamond this rare marks an unprecedented opportunity for collectors of the world’s finest gemstones,” says Christie’s

The 500-lot sale will also feature four lots of Leviev jewels from a private collector. These include a cushion-cut D-color internally flawless diamond ring totaling 26.72 carats, which is mounted in platinum and flanked on both sides by a shield-shape diamond. The ring has a pre-sale estimate of $4 million-$6 million. Also up for auction are a pair of pear-shaped D-color diamond ear pendants of 10.31 and 9.94 carats that have an estimate of $2 million-$3 million.

For Art-Deco devotees, the Magnificent Jewels sale offers a Cartier Tutti Frutti bracelet. Dating back to 1930, and inspired by the intricate Mughal carving and craftsmanship of Indian art, the bracelet has an estimate of $300,000-$500,000.

Gemstone highlights for the sale include a Belle Époque 21.27-carat Kashmir sapphire ring, circa 1910, with an estimate of $1.5 million-$2.5 million and a 91.38-carat Burmese sapphire necklace with an estimate of $800,000-$1.2 million.

“2013 has proven to be a record-breaking year for jewelry auctions globally. Beginning with the historic sale of the Princie Diamond in New York in April to The Orange in Geneva this November, collectors worldwide paid record prices to acquire the rarest and finest gemstones that appeared on the auction block,” said Rahul Kadakia, head of Jewelry for Christie’s Americas and Switzerland.

The Magnificent Jewels sale is expected to generate more than $45 million in sales.
