Antwerp Firms Pleased With Results of Diamond Trade Fair

January 27, 14 by Albert Robinson, Antwerp

(IDEX Online News) – Many exhibitors at the fifth edition of the Antwerp Diamond Trade Fair (ADTF) reported satisfaction with the results of the event, now in its second day.

The show is taking place for the first time in the trading halls of three of the city's diamond exchanges – the Antwerp Diamond Bourse, the Diamond Club of Antwerp and the Antwerp Diamond Kring. It opened its doors to hundreds of invited international jewelry manufacturers, retailers and designers on Sunday, with around 90 Antwerp diamond firms exhibiting.

"So far it is going well," said Frederic Dawidowicz, Sales Director for Antwerp at Royal Gem. "We have sold several important stones. My only complaint would be that we have not yet seen enough important visitors. But we are happy with this show and we would like to see it become a global event, and to be seen as important as the other large trade shows. For the Antwerp exhibitors, it is extremely convenient and a great opportunity to showcase our goods."

Meanwhile, Peter Martin from Pluczenik Diamonds said the fair "attracts a lot of window shopping". He said the show enabled the firm to meet jewelry firms from throughout Europe. "We meet people from other markets at the trade shows that we attend around the world, but this one gives us access to jewelry firms from throughout Europe and that is valuable.

"We are happy with the quality of the people that we are meeting. They are serious and know what they are looking for. In general, our expectations for the show were not very high. We did not expect to make a lot of sales as compared, for example, with other exhibitors we have seen of commercial goods who have done many sales. But it is good for people to see us and the diamonds that we can supply."

A breakfast seminar on January 28 by World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) President Ernest Blom will present the World Diamond Mark initiative which aims to create and implement a global, generic diamond marketing and promotion campaign.

The Antwerp Diamond Trade Fair is sponsored by the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC).
