World Diamond Council Searching For Executive Director

July 16, 14 by Albert Robinson

(IDEX Online News)
– The World Diamond Council (WDC) has initiated an international search for an Executive Director to head the organization, under the authority of the WDC President and Executive Committee.

It will be the first time that the industry organization, dedicated to the elimination of the trade in the conflict diamonds, will headed by a salaried administrator.

The new WDC Executive Director will have responsibility for the day-to-day management of the organization, including managing the budget and membership drives, providing strategic direction, liaising with government, stakeholders and other organizations, and representing the WDC in the Kimberley Process and various of its committees.

To fill the position, the WDC has invited applications from individuals with a minimum of 10-15 years' experience in an administrative experience, of which at least five years has been in a senior management position.

Geographical location and familiarity with luxury goods, diamonds or the gemstone industry are not required, but general experience with extractives, commodities, manufacturing, specialty goods, retail or product supply chains would be an advantage, as would be knowledge about corporate and social responsibility, voluntary commitments and the implementation of intergovernmental agreements, and also the Kimberley Process.

"The appointment of an Executive Director will be a key step in our process to reform the WDC, and to equip it to meet the challenges of the future," said WDC President Edward Asscher. "It is a position that encompasses real challenge, and also one in which an individual can bring about positive change, both in the industry and in the lives of our stakeholders."
