Growing Indian-US Jewelry Trade Key, as GJEPC Gears Up for JCK Las Vegas

(IDEX Online News) – Some sixty-seven gem and jewelry exporters will be exhibiting in the Indian Pavilion at the upcoming JCK Las Vegas trade show. This is the 12th consecutive year that the Gem & Jewelry Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), the Indian industries’ umbrella body, is presenting the India Pavilion at the show.
The GJEPC said its continued presence at the show reflects the ever-increasing importance of the jewelry trade between India and the US. Indian gem and jewelry exports were worth $36.05 billion in 2014 – of which, $7.16 billion went to the US. India accounts for around 22 percent of the US’s imports of gem and jewelry products. Cut and polished diamonds exports were worth $5.26 billion in the same period, marking the US as a key Indian export destination.
“The Council has taken increased efforts in last 12-18 months toward divesting in the USA to boost export trade from India. The promotional efforts toward increasing exports to [the] USA through the JCK Las Vegas show, Buyer Seller Meets, and on-going dialogues with key G&J players in the USA, value-additions in [the] form of design excellence and trends forecast seminars for Indian manufacturers, have resulted in a better understanding and exchange between the two regions and the positive state of the industry stands testimony to the Council’s efforts,” said GJEPC chairman Vipul Shah.
