As Promised, Dominion Rehiring Workers Laid Off After Ekati Blaze

September 07, 16 by Albert Robinson

(IDEX Online) – Canadian miner Dominion Diamonds is taking on employees it laid off in June.

The miner temporarily laid off about 300 workers from its Ekati diamond mine in the North West Territories following a fire at a processing plant on June 23.

It laid off the staff saying it needed to save money while it closed down operations to repair the plant.

Chief Executive Brendan Bell said the plant should be back to normal operations by the end of September, with all of its laid-off employees and contractors returning.
