De Beers & Endiama Extend Moratorium Discussions

December 30, 02 by IDEX Online Newsroom

De Beers and Endiama have agreed to extend the moratorium period until 28 February 2003 to allow for further discussions after the Christmas break. The extension comes after the moratorium agreement was due to expire on December 31, 2002.

De Beers and Endiama, Angola's State Diamond Corporation, signed the moratorium on October 15, 2002.

The two parties are determined to resolve their disputes. They feel it would be of mutual benefit to extend the moratorium and seek the conclusion of new contracts that would pave the way to mutual cooperation in the Angolan diamond industry.

De Beers hopes that these negotiations will lead to the company being able to return to Angola to work in partnership with the Angolan government.
