Museum of Named Diamonds Selects IGI as Curator-at-Large

June 02, 16 by David Brummer

(IDEX Online News) – The International Gemological Institute (IGI) has announced its selection as curator-at-large for the Museum of Named Diamonds, which serves as a single registry for the world’s named diamonds.

Curators at the museum assist with the registration and naming of purchased diamonds, including helping consumers to collect a stone’s story and choosing a name.

IGI is now able to offer consumers an optional registration upgrade, meaning that those with IGI-graded diamonds can now have them registered at the museum, which can either be performed at the time of IGI registration or retroactively.

The Museum Curator Program was launched in April, with participating retail jewelers known as Associate Curators.

“The Museum’s purpose of recording and preserving a diamond’s story yields five romantic benefits for the consumer,” said Online Museum vice chairman Jacques Voorhees. “As we further explain on our website, MuseumOfDiamonds.org, it provides the enjoyment of a fun experience; preservation of a love story; the ability to showcase and share your diamond and what it represents; a way to make your diamond jewelry even more meaningful; and the perfect gift.”

“IGI’s primary function is as both an educational and independent gemological organization,” said IGI president & CEO Jerry Ehrenwald. “The Museum of Named Diamonds is focusing on the romance and symbolism of each diamond, and the unique story behind it – an important part of the diamond ownership experience.”

The Museum of Named Diamonds will be exhibiting at the upcoming JCK Las Vegas show.
