Alrosa and IDE Presidents Meet in Moscow

December 01, 05 by IDEX Online Staff Reporter

The presidents of Alrosa and the Israel Diamond Exchange (IDE), Alexander Nichiporuk and Avi Paz, met in Moscow on Monday. The two discussed ways to further develop cooperation between the Russian diamond miner and Israeli traders.

Areas of cooperation between the two firms include rough diamond trading and furthering the Kimberly Process. Issues such as HPHT treatments and consumer confidence were also discussed.

Israeli diamond traders take an active role in the Russian diamond exchange, the Diamond Chamber of Russia. According to the Chamber’s statistics, Israelis make up 37 percent of its clients.

Israel is interested in getting a bigger share of Alrosa’s rough diamonds, and the sides are considering holding tenders in Israel and Russia. IDE president Paz said in a release, “One of the first practical achievements of the meeting is turning Alrosa’s office, which has been in Israel for years, into an active commercial representation office” with a role in bringing rough diamonds to Israel.
