De Beers Responds to EC Complaint

Subsequent to the complaint filed against De Beers and the Supplier of Choice policy with the European Commission, first revealed in IDEX Online, the company says it rejects the allegations raised against it.

Monday afternoon an Antwerp Sightholder, allegedly IDH Diamonds, filed a complaint with the EC raising interest in the diamond world on the recent development on this hotly debated issue. De Beers says it intends to defend its position.

A De Beers spokesperson told IDEX Online “We are aware that IDH have raised a number of allegations in respect of the application of Supplier of Choice. The Diamond Trading Company does not accept the allegations made against it and will vigorously defend its position in respect of these allegations. We do not, however, intend to comment on the specific details of the case or the merits of the allegations made against DTC.”
