Killings in Guyana Diamond Mining Camp Discovered

June 25, 08 by IDEX Online Staff Reporter

Up to eight people were shot and their bodies burned near a remote diamond mining camp in the South American country of Guyana, Reuters reported Tuesday.

Prime Minister Samuel Hinds said that the incident was “almost like a cremation” and added that it was unclear at the time when the victims were killed. Investigators performing forensic research discovered that the site contained skeletal remains of at least eight people.

The government said that it became aware of the destruction of the small diamond mining camp on Saturday, according to the news source. Police are continuing their investigation of the killings.
