Dubai Summit Aims to Boost Diamond and Jewelry Trade with ME Region
July 24, 08
The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) is organizing the first Dubai Diamond and Jewellery Summit, in order to provide the international jewelry trade with a forum to initiate relationships in the Middle East. The inaugural two-day summit, November 8-9 in Dubai, will focus on the Middle East-China diamond and jewelry trade.
DMCC explains that the summit follows a visit to China by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of UAE and ruler of Dubai. Its aim is to reinforce ongoing efforts to strengthen trade relations between the two countries.
The summit also follows two agreements signed earlier this year by DMCC with the Government of Panyu, China and with the Gems & Jewellery Trade Association of China, for cooperation towards growth and the promotion of the diamond and jewelry trade.
“Emerging economies such as the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Egypt are all set to become the center of the fast-growing jewelry business in the next three years, with Dubai being the natural gateway for the wider region…This summit will focus on the growing business potential between China and the Middle East, two major global trading blocs,” commented Ahmed Bin Sulayem, DMCC executive chairman.
