The training program covers theory and practical aspects of diamond grading. The first six-day course began August 9 and was followed by two more. The program is limited to 15 students at a time and is open to retailers, jewelry designers and consumers interested in knowing more about diamond grading.
“Saudi Arabia is the largest regional consumer of diamonds and is an important market for IDL,” said IDL CEO Peter Meeus.
The country accounts for 80 percent of the Gulf diamond jewelry consumption with Saudi women spending 7 billion Riyals ($1. 8 billion) on diamonds in 2007. IDL expects to see a 15-20 percent increase in this figure in 2008.
