DMCC’s Summit to Attract Over 500 Participants

October 22, 08 by IDEX Online Staff Reporter

More than 500 diamond traders, retailers and stakeholders worldwide have confirmed their participation to the Middle East-China Diamond and Jewellery Summit (MECDJS), The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) said on Wednesday.

The summit, which is set to take place on November 8 and 9, will include 70 Chinese companies, over 150 delegates from Europe and India, and more than 280 participants from the Middle East including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Peter Meeus, executive director of the Diamonds Division at the DMCC, noted in a statement that the summit’s focus on emerging economies assisted companies as they were forced to explore new markets and opportunities due to the global financial crisis.

“Despite the global downturn, China and the Middle East continue to witness positive growth. By focusing on these new consumer markets, the summit will set the right tone in reaffirming the industry’s shift towards emerging economies,” Meeus said, noting Dubai’s crucial role as a gateway to the significant emerging markets of the world.

The two-day summit will feature panel discussions by leading, local and international retailers such as Damas International, Joy Alukkas, Chow Tai Fook, Chow Sang Sang and Luk Fook.

Top jewelry brands including Roberto Coin, Mouawad and Christies’ have also confirmed their participation in panel discussions on the first day of the summit.
