Namdeb: Work Expected To Resume This Week
July 15, 09
After a three month production interruption during which its diamond mines were placed on a care and maintenance schedule, Namdeb started a re-commissioning program as it expects to resume mining work this week.
In a message focused on the mine workers, Namdeb Managing Director Inge Zaamwani-Kamwi welcomed the employees back at a mass rally held in Oranjemund on 8 July. The rally was preceded by a long distance bus transportation program bringing employees back from across Namibia with senior management members, including Zaamwani-Kamwi traveling to those areas in order to accompany workers on their journey back.
In her address, Zaamwani-Kamwi noted that even though there were some rough diamond sales, the worse was not yet over. “While the global economy is on the road to recovery mode, it is important that we work smarter at all times whilst living our values.”
Two weeks into an intensive and successful re-commissioning program, production at various areas is expected to resume this week, the company said.
