Israeli Diamantaire "Falls Victim"

July 07, 10 by IDEX Online Staff Reporter

Israeli diamantaire Shlomo Fastig yesterday announced that an incident of embezzlement had taken place in his Hong Kong office, leading to substantial losses,  the Israeli business daily The Marker reported.

The president of the Israel Diamond Exchange, Avi Paz told the newspaper that in line with Exchange procedure, a committee of Fastig's debtors and creditors had been set up. "I hope that the committee will find a solution acceptable to all sides," Paz was quoted as saying.

According to reports in the paper, the majority of the money is owed to diamantaires in India, the U.S. and Hong Kong.

The newspaper quoted Fastig as saying that he had fallen victim to a "sting operation."
