Mines to Market Program to Promote India as a Brand
October 07, 10In announcing the line up of the conference, newly elected Chairman of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) Rajiv Jain said the Council is set to work towards establishing the Indian industry as the brand to reckon with.
In the past few years, the organization has been working hard in backing and initiating efforts to propel India into a leadership position. Among those are the Made in India initiative planned to promote India as a source of high quality jewelry, growing international attendance at local jewelry trade shows, as well as the bi-annual conference.
The Rough Producers’ Session will host Zimbabwe’s Minister of Mines Obert Mpofu, DTC CEO Varda Shine, Jacob Thamage from Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals, Rio Tinto Diamonds’ marketing head Jean-Marc Lieberherr and Alrosa’s Leonid Tolpezhnikov.
The manufacturing session will include speeches by Jacky Tache of Tache Diamonds, Elliot Tannebaum from Leo Shachter Diamonds and Venus Jewels’ Anil Shah.
The heads of India’s rough buying groups, Praveenshankar Pandya of DIL and Ashit Mehta of SDIL will attend the rough sourcing session, while Gitanjali’s Mehul Choksi will run the retail session.
“India today is surging forward to establish itself as the centre of global gem and jewelry trade. In Manufacturing we are the leading Global player,” Rajiv Jain said at a press conference this week. “It’s time we realize the potential of India as a ‘Global Brand’ and I sincerely hope that Mines to Market will aim at taking stock of the diamond industry globally, and evolving a way forward for future.”
