Polished Diamonds Add 11% to Their Value in Belgium in September

Antwerp's added value to its polished diamonds was 10.7% in September

(IDEX Online News) - Belgium's net polished diamond exports in September totaled $105.1 million, a 53.6 percent decline compared to September 2009. In carats, imports exceeded exports by 91,195 carats.

Gross exports by Antwerp totaled $1.26 billion, a 21 percent year over year increase. The volume of exports was 808,519 carats, a small 1.5 percent increase. The average value of exports rose 19.2 percent to $1,560.28 per carat. Month over month exports shot up more than 200 percent as the center sent many goods to the Hong Kong trade show.

Antwerp imported 820,809  carats worth $1.16 billion, rising 16.4 and 417 percent respectively. The average value of imports was $1,408.91 p/c, up 21.8 percent.

With Antwerp traders exporting almost all of their imports, it appears that goods added on average $151 or 10.7 percent to their value at the center.
