“Demand for large colored diamonds from connoisseurs and investors continues to reach new heights, and we look forward to starting the spring season with this exceptional group of top-colored diamonds, curated with the specific desires of today’s collectors in mind,” Rahul Kadakia, head of jewelry at Christie’s New York, said.
Christie’s had previously announced its premiere lot of the sale, a fancy vivid purple-pink diamond of 10 carats, estimated to sell for between $12 and $15 million. The auction will also feature fancy vivid blue, yellow and pink diamonds of superior size, clarity and color saturation.
This cushion-cut fancy vivid yellow diamond ring (below), by Carvin French, is 50 carats and flanked on either side by 2-carat rectangular-cut diamonds, mounted in platinum. The piece is expected to sell for between $2 and $3 million.
Additionally, the auction will feature jewelry by Cartier, including an art deco diamond and onyx convertible bracelet, circa 1925.
A suite of Colombian emerald and diamond jewels by Van Cleef & Arpels will also be offered, comprised of an emerald and diamond necklace, a pear-shaped emerald and diamond pendant brooch, and a pair of pear-shaped emerald and diamond ear pendants (below). The set as a whole is estimated to sell for between $520,000 and $700,000.
“Our 2010 global jewelry sales total-the highest ever for any auction house at $426-million was led by extraordinary prices for colored diamonds,” Kadakia said.
Nearly 300 items will be offered at the Magnificent Jewels auction, and sales are expected to total at more than $40 million.
