U.S. Rough Trade Pulls to Extremes in February
April 14, 11(IDEX Online News) – The value of gross U.S. rough diamond imports marked a large increase in February, rising 179% to $81 million. The increase comes despite a sharp fall in the value of gross imports, some 60% to 19,433 carats, based on figures published by the Department of Commerce. The average value of imports leaped as a result by 592.6% to $4,167.73 p/c.
Exports also increased significantly, rising, by value 232.6% to $29.1 million and by volume 109.6% to 143,520 carats. The average value of exports soared 5296.6% to $6,889.56 p/c.
This left the U.S. with imports of $52 million of rough. However, as always, by volume exports exceeded imports. In February it was by a staggering 738.5%.
