Sharp Decline in U.S. Rough Trade in March
May 16, 11The volume of gross imports fell 68.6% to 14,947 carats. Exports of diamonds declined 72.2% to 20,777 carats, once again shipping out more goods than were imported.
In the first quarter of 2011, gross rough diamond imports totaled $173.3 million and net imports $99.3 million.
The reasons for the sharp decline in rough trade via the U.S. are not clear. Month over month, the value of gross imports declined by 54.6% while net imports dropped by 95.3%.
