Largest-Ever Israeli Presence at February HK Jewelry Show

February 02, 12 by IDEX Online Staff Reporter

(IDEX Online News) – Proving the importance of Hong Kong to the Israel diamond industry, the Israel Diamond Pavilion at the upcoming HKTDC Jewelry Show will be the largest ever, featuring 70 companies.

Ten of the companies are first-time exhibitors with another 20 exhibiting in other locations throughout the show, including in the Chancellor Room, which is devoted exclusively to diamonds.

Most of the booths in the Israeli pavilion, which is organized by the Israel Diamond Institute (IDI), will have translators available to ensure smooth communication with local Chinese-speaking buyers.

An online mini-site enables buyers to visit the pavilion virtually before the show. It includes contact details of all Israeli exhibitors as well as a map indicating their location at the show.

Hong Kong is Israel’s second-largest market for polished diamonds and represents about 30 percent of total polished diamond exports. The center is also seen as a gateway to other Asian markets including Thailand, Singapore and Japan, which the IDI sees as the future direction of the industry.

IDI managing director Eli Avidar says he is very optimistic about the medium- and long-term prospects for Asian markets. “China has evolved into an independent market for luxury goods and jewelry, with a great amount of wealth being created. China is becoming an important consumer of polished diamonds and we are focusing our marketing strategy on developing this market.”

The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show runs February 16-20.
