2 Ct Fancy Vivid Purplish Pink Going to HK

March 04, 13 by IDEX Online Staff Reporter

(IDEX Online News)
– Pink diamond aficionados will be happy to hear that a 2.02-carat, Fancy Vivid purplish pink SI2 diamond will be offered at the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show that opens Tuesday.

Fancy color specialists Leibish & Co., which polished the diamond from the original 4.96-carat rough pink, is presenting the Cushion-shaped gem named the Leibish Pink Promise.

Demand for fancy color diamonds is constantly increasing and their prices are rising with it. In early February, a 0.51 carat Fancy Vivid Purplish Pink VS2 fetched $338,500 or $663,725 per carat at Sotheby's.

“Given the impressive price performance of both the important diamonds sold in the auction houses as well as smaller diamonds traded among the general public, colored diamonds are becoming much sought after investment options,” said Yossi Polnauer, CEO of Leibish & Co.

The rough diamond was mined at Kao in South Africa, a rare find in size and location. Most pink diamonds are mined at Argyle in Australia. The company bought the rough at the Kao tender in Antwerp last November.

The company spent more than four months on assessing and then polishing the diamond. Shmulik Polnauer said they considered polishing the diamond in to a Round or a Heart shape, but eventually felt that a Cushion will yield the best result.

“By cutting a heart shape, we had fair chance to finish [with] a 1.80-carat, with VS2 clarity. We did not want to compromise on the color saturation and wanted to keep the stone over 2 carats,” Polnauer said.

“We expect many investors to show interest in this diamond due to its rarity and ability to appreciate in value over time," he added.
