U.S. Christmas Sales to Surge 16% to $61B, says ComScore
November 19, 14The rise in spending indicates the rise in economic optimism among consumers, the firm added.
In a breakdown of e-commerce spending in for this month and next, ComScore forecasts spending on desktop personal computers will total $53.2 billion, a 14-percent increase on last year.
Meanwhile, mobile shopping is predicted to soar 25 percent to $7.87 billion, and to account for 13 percent of all holiday e-commerce.
With U.S. stock markets at record highs and low inflation, spending is being boosted by a rise in consumer sentiment. A fall in gasoline prices has also led to more money in the pockets of consumers.
In addition, an extra shopping day between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year will also help consumer spending.
“We are seeing healthy growth,” said Adam Lella, an analyst at ComScore.
“We expect mobile to grow at a faster rate going forward, but it won’t be split even, since it’s just an easier experience to shop on the desktop.”
