Raiders Tunnel Through Three Businesses to Reach Jewelry Store
April 01, 24(IDEX Online) - Raiders used sledgehammers to smash walls in three neighboring businesses at a strip mall in in Los Angeles, USA, to reach a jewelry store.
But they fled empty-handed when they were confronted by owners, who had stayed late for some repairs.
The burglars broke into a Tae Kwon Do studio at one end of the strip, in Chatsworth, and demolished a series of dividing walls to tunnel their way from there to Cosmetic Creations next door, then to Sarah's Super Salon, a hairdressing salon, and finally to Denny Lesser's Fine Jewelry.
Owner Danny Lesser, who happened to be at the premises at 2am on Monday (25 March), spotted one intruder, jammed a chair under a door handle to stop him getting any further, and yelled. He said the man he saw, and an accomplice, ran off.
Los Angeles Police Department say there was a similar break-in nearby the previous week, through it's not certain the two are linked.
