Tiffany Blends Tech and Heritage in New Solar Watch

(IDEX Online) - Tiffany & Co has launched a new high jewelry diamond timepiece that incorporates groundbreaking solar technology, as the company increases its focus on watchmaking.
The Rope watch, with a twist gold motif inspired by the iconic jewelry designer Jean Schlumberger (1907-1987) is powered by solar cells beneath the semi-translucent dial.
The innovation, a collaboration with the Swiss movement specialist La Joux Perret, allows the fully-charged watch to run for eight months without exposure to light.
Tiffany has a long history of watchmaking. It partnered with Patek Philippe back in 1851 and went on to build its own watchmaking factory in Geneva.
Watches have only ever represented a very small fraction of Tiffany's activities, but they have been increasing since the company was acquired by LVMH in 2021.
Since then it has introduced new collections such as Eternity Round, Eternity Cushion, HardWear, and Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany, that draw inspiration from some of its best-selling jewelry motifs.
The bezel features two concentric braided gold rope rings separated by a band of round brilliant diamonds.
The new Rope watch, in an 18k yellow gold case are available as 27mm diameter (38 diamonds totaling 0.52 carats, price $ 16,000) and 33mm (39 diamonds totaling 0.90 carats, price $22,000).
