Modi Seeks Closer Diamond Ties with Namibia
July 03, 25
(IDEX Online) - India's prime minister is expected to push for closer diamond ties with Namibia when he makes his first ever visit to the country next week.
India's Ankit Gems, KGK and other manufacturers currently operate cutting and polishing facilities in the capital Windhoek, but there are no direct rough sales from Namibia to India.
Narendra Modi's visit on 9 July is expected to lay the groundwork for more direct trade channels between the two countries.
Namibia is the world's fifth biggest diamond producer (by value and volume, according to KP data) and is home to the world's richest marine diamond deposits, with reserves exceeding 80m carats.
Modi will also discuss Namibia's critical minerals and uranium and will address the Namibian Parliament. He is also visiting Ghana, Argentina, Brazil, and Trinidad and Tobago on a five-nation tour.
