CIBJO's Definitive Blue List Almost Ready
November 01, 25
(IDEX Online) - The Blue List, a definitive glossary of terms being prepared by the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) should now be released during the first quarter of 2026.
Work on the project started in 2019, delegates at the CIBJO Congress, in Paris, were told during a panel discussion last week, but publication has been slightly delayed.
The Blue List: The Responsible Jewellery Supply Chain Lexicon is designed to protect consumer confidence by ensuring terminology is accurate, substantiated, and easy to understand, wherever it is used.
"If we are not using the same language, how can we not expect to confuse the consumer," said Feriel Zerouki, De Beers' chief trade and industry officer and president of the World Diamond Council.
This first edition of the Blue List was due to be published for the October CIBJO Congress after extensive feedback from a four-month public consultation, but has been delayed.
Work paused during COVID, and resumed in late 2022.
The Blue List is designed to "serve as a living document, reviewed regularly and updated as regulatory needs evolve".
Dr Gaetano Cavalieri, CIBJO president, spoke of the detailed scrutiny by members of the working groups to add words and reach clear definitions to give the right information to consumers.
He said: "The Blue List is a vital step toward greater consistency and credibility in how our industry communicates about responsibility.
"With growing demand for transparency, the absence of clear, harmonised terminology has led to confusion, even among professionals.
"By providing universally agreed language and guidance for substantiation, we are creating a common ground that strengthens trust both within the industry and with the public."
