$4.7m Earrings Lead TV Doctor's Jewel Sale

(IDEX Online) - A collection of jewelry that belonged to Dr Antje-Katrin Kuhnemann, German TV's first ever on-screen doctor, is to be sold at Sotheby Geneva's High Jewelry Sale next week (12 November).
Highlight of the 34 lots is a pair of huge fancy vivid yellow diamond earrings (pictured), weighing 38.66 and 38.88 carats, VS1 and VVS2 clarity, with an estimate of CHF 2m to CHF 3.8m (USD 2.5m to 4.7m).
Her collection also features many rare and unique Cartier jewels, as well as pieces by Geneva-based De Grisogono, known for its daring and innovative designs.
The sale, part of Sotheby's High Jewelry Sale, is called Aria of Jewels: The Collection of a Distinguished Lady, a tribute to pays tribute to her love of opera.
Kuhnemann, who was also a prominent philanthropist, died in March of this year, aged 80.
She made her fortune primarily through her long and successful career as a medical doctor and TV personality.
She was also married to Jorg Guhring, an entrepreneur who expanded the family business founded in 1898 into one of the world's leading manufacturers of rotating components for the metalworking industry.
Kuhnemann hosted the weekly show Die Sprechstunde (the consultation hour) from 1973 to 2007, attracting huge audiences as she explained medical conditions and helped break the stigma associated with some of them.
She harbored a "fervent, life-long passion for rare and magnificent jewels," said Sotheby's.
