(IDEX Online) - A tenth suspect has been arrested in connection with Canada's biggest ever gold heist.
Arsalan Chaudhary, aged 43, was detained on Monday (12 January) as he flew in from Dubai to Toronto Pearson International, the same airport where the CAD 20m (USD 15m) theft took place in April 2023.
Chaudhary, of no fixed address, has been described as "Top Dog" and is alleged to have had a key role in planning the crime.
Nine other suspects were arrested before Chaudhary, and police are still hunting two other men, including an Air Canada employee.
Perpetrators used a fraudulent airway bill (carrier's document of instruction) to dupe warehouse staff at the airport.
They then used a forklift truck to empty a cargo container packed with 400kg of gold, as well as foreign currency worth CAD $2.5m (USD 1.8m) that had arrived on a flight from Zurich, Switzerland.
It wasn't until the following day that the theft was discovered.
