JCPenney's Lab Grown Giveaway for Valentine's Day
February 01, 26
(IDEX Online) - JCPenney is giving away 600 half-carat lab growns in a Valentine's Day promotion.
The 650-outlet department store is encouraging customers to bring in an unwanted item of jewelry from an ex, and swap it for a half-carat lab-grown diamond necklace set in 14k yellow gold over silver.
Similar items are listed online by JCPenney at around $400, although they are often heavily discounted.
A hundred necklaces will be given out at the flagship store in Garden City, NY, on a first come, first served basis, in the JCPenney Ex-Change, on 14 February. Another 500 will be distributed across 10 other locations.
The promotion underlines the ongoing fall in lab grown prices. "Many (shoppers) are especially excited to discover our lab-grown diamonds, which let them go bigger and bolder without the traditional price barrier," said Jillian Roig, VP & DMM of Fine Jewelry at JCPenney.
In a press release JCPenney says: "Shoppers are invited to bring in a once-loved treasure and exchange it - flat trade, zero guilt, zero extra cost, zero questions asked - for a fresh start."
JCPenney started selling IGI-certified lab growns in October 2018, positioning them as an ethical, affordable alternative to natural diamonds.
Items traded in during the JCPenney Ex-Change will be donated to Good360, the nonprofit connecting corporations with surplus goods to nonprofits serving communities in need.
