Angola's Annual Diamond Output to Hit 17.5m carats
February 12, 26
(IDEX Online) - The Angolan government says it aims to increase annual diamond production to 17.5m carats in 2027, after a record output last year of 14.0m carats.
Endiama, the state-owned diamond company, said it was planning a significant expansion in its activities, according to a publication it distributed earlier this week at the Africa Mining Indaba in Cape Town, South Africa.
Angola is now the world's third biggest rough diamond producer, after Russia and Botswana.
Its diamond revenue surged by 21 per cent during 2025, up from $1.49bn to $1.8bn, although that was partly a result of its decision to sell off stockpiles from its Luele and Catoca mines, rather than wait for prices to recover.
The price per carat fell by almost 29 per cent in 2025, down from $143 to $102.
Endiama estimates Angola has reserves of more than 732m carats, valued at over $140bn.
The Luele mine, which opened in 2023, ramped up production significantly in 2025.
Luele and Catoca jointly account for over 90 per cent of the country's diamond production.
