Slight Drop in Fancy Color Diamond Prices
May 09, 26
(IDEX Online) - Prices of fancy color diamonds slipped slightly during the first three months of 2026 the FCRF (Fancy Color Research Foundation) said yesterday (9 May).
The overall Fancy Color Diamond Index was down 0.2%, following on from a 0.1% drop during Q4 2025, reflecting "the stable market environment in this niche that has persisted over the past year".
Pinks (all sizes and intensity) were down 0.3% during the quarter, or 0.8% on a trailing 12-month basis.
Blues were also down 0.3%, or 0.5% on a 12-month trailing basis, and yellows were unchanged during the quarter, but down 1.2% on a trailing 12-month basis.
The FCRF said that despite the decreases, the fancy color diamond continues to demonstrate resilience.
Price movements remain selective, it said, largely driven by specific characteristics such as size, color intensity, and rarity.
The top climber during Q1 2026 was Pink Fancy Intense, 1ct, up by 1.9%. Top slider was Yellow Fancy, 8ct, down by 1.5%.
Ephraim Zion, managing director of the Hong Kong-based high jewelry house Dehres, said: "We're continuing to see a very selective market. Clients are taking their time and focusing on stones that really stand out, particularly those with strong color and rarity.
"While overall pricing has been relatively steady, the difference between top-quality stones and more commercial goods feels more prominent than before."
