CIBJO Warning over Gold-Trading Operation
May 25, 26
(IDEX Online) - The World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) has issued an urgent warning about a gold‑trading operation that is falsely claiming to have its endorsement.
As a non‑profit representative association, CIBJO says it does not trade in any commercial products, the second‑hand gold market, or financial instruments such as gold futures.
In an update issued today (25 May), it warns that individuals claiming to represent CIBJO or bodies directly affiliated with it are offering products and/or financial instruments that are endorsed by CIBJO.
"The existence of such claims was brought to CIBJO's attention on 24 May 2026, which are similar to other claims reported to us in January of this year, when a purported Indian/Japanese group claimed to be a gold‑trading operation affiliated with CIBJO," it said.
The cibjo‑as.org website, which offers second‑hand gold items for sale, has no connection to CIBJO. The genuine CIBJO website is www.cibjo.org.
CIBJO says it has made formal complaints to law enforcement authorities in a number of countries and is urging industry members to be cautious.
