Signet Buys The Clear Cut to Boost Blue Nile
May 31, 26
(IDEX Online) - Signet has bought The Clear Cut, a high-end, online-only retailer for an undisclosed sum, and will integrate it into its Blue Nile brand.
It's part of Signet's "Grow Brand Love" turnaround strategy, unveiled by CEO J.K. Symancyk in March 2025, aimed at differentiating its brands.
The Clear Cut, originally an educational blog, was founded in New York as a company in 2018 by husband and wife Olivia Landau and Kyle Simon and came to specialize in luxury, bespoke and bridal.
The couple started out exchanging Instagram DMs and text messages to sell diamond rings priced at up to $70,000.
Blue Nile, bought by Signet in August 2022 for $360 million, has been deliberately repositioning as "elevated luxury jewelry anchored in natural diamonds" to move upmarket and avoid being stuck in the middle between mass and ultra-luxury.
Signet's CFO Joan Hilson described the deal as a "tuck-in investment" which should drive higher-AOV natural diamond sales.
The Clear Cut name will remain, but its website won't. Olivia Landau will serve as president, and Kyle Simon as COO.
