Chhattisgarh Holding Talks to Set Up Diamond Park

July 20, 04 by Albert Robinson

The Chhattisgarh state government is considering plans to establish a diamond industrial park for the cutting and polishing of locally mined gems.

The state is negotiating with Mumbai-based firms for the setting up a diamond park that would house more than 50 small and medium-sized cutters and polishers.

The state’s interest in such a plan was reportedly prompted by comments from De Beers' that Chhattisgarh has several large diamond deposits. Currently Six major miners, including De Beers and Rio Tinto are in the early stages of diamond exploration in the central Indian state.
