Omega Plans to Lure Indian Male Ambassador

Omega, the Swiss watch manufacturer, is on the lookout for a new Indian male brand ambassador. The company is hoping to lure a celebrity either from the world of cricket or film to replace their former representative, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan, who is now advertising Tag Heur. The company is expected to make the announcement in January 2006.

The company, which is owned by the Swatch group, believes that India will emerge as one of the top five markets for luxury watches in Asia by 2010, according to the Indian newspaper Business Standard.

Omega plans to open up six exclusive stores in India by the end of 2006.

According to fashion trend analysis by IDEX Online Research, big name celebrities are increasingly replacing anonymous models in luxury goods advertising campaigns, especially for jewelry producers and retailers.

 Omega has traditionally utilized celebrities in the company's advertising; with stars such as Nicole Kidman and Pierce Brosnan appearing in their campaigns.
