Oscar Jewelry Trend Predictions

February 22, 12 by Danielle Max

(IDEX Online News) – Celebs attending the Oscars are going to be decked out in bright, bold, colored gemstones, statement cuffs and oversized earrings. Michael O’Connor, who will host StyleLab's styling event for Academy Award nominees, presenters and stylists, has put together some of his predications for what’s going to be hot on the red carpet on Sunday night.

He says the stars are going to be decked out in bright, bold, colored gemstones. He says gems – especially pink, orange, blue and green – will be large and accented with diamonds.

Forget dainty bracelets, this year, O’Connor predicts that chunky statement cuffs with geometric shapes and vintage designs will be prevalent on the red carpet.

Although diamond studs will always remain a staple of any outfit, both on and off the red carpet, this year, O’Connor is hedging the return to oversized drop or chandelier earrings that practically touch the collarbone.

Since time flies when you are having fun, it’s important for the celebs to keep an eye on the hour. While watches have tended to be the preserve of men on the red carpet, look out for female celebs sporting watches featuring pavé diamond-encrusted dials and delicate leather straps.

But there’s one trend that remains firmly a man-only domain – cufflinks. O’Connor says styles with interesting patterns rendered in contemporary metals will beat out traditional square cufflinks in the fashion award stakes.
