Coronavirus: Diamond Auction Raises $340,000 for Grieving Families

(IDEX Online)- Three spectacular pieces of diamond jewelry sold for $338,781 at auction to support the families of healthcare workers who lost their lives battling COVID-19.
They were specially created by renowned Taiwan-born designer Anna Hu and were sold by Christie's in Hong Kong to help Diamonds That Care, a social responsibility initiative launched by Russian miners Alrosa.
Ms Hu also donated the original sketches outlining her inspiration behind these three pieces to the buyers in an online auction that closed on 13 July and attracted over 5,000 visitors.
The largest stone (pictured), the 27.02 carat fancy brown-yellow VVS1 pear brilliant-cut diamond, set in an 18-carat red gold and white gold necklace, together with smaller fancy color and colorless diamonds, realized $291,773.
A pair of earrings of 18-carat white gold and 18-carat red gold, featuring a pear-shaped faint brown 3.21 and 3.01 diamond (M/VVS2) sold for $27,556.
And an 18-carat red gold ring featuring a faint brown pear brilliant-cut diamond (K/VS1) weighing 1.59 carats, sold for $19,452.
Diamonds That Care will transfer the proceeds to the Brave of Heart Fund via the global nonprofit organization Diamonds Do Good.
