Lucapa Resumes Search for Lulo Kimberlites

July 15, 24 by John Jeffay

(IDEX Online) - Lucapa says it has resumed its search for the kimberlite sources of diamonds currently being recovered at its Lulo mine, in Angola.

The Australian miner says the exploration program is in full flow again after floodwaters from the wet season receded.

It believes deposits at Lulo - which command the world's highest price per carat for alluvial diamonds - originate from a deep source somewhere within the huge 3000 km2 concession.

A high-priority target, identified as kimberlite target L014, which largely sits beneath the Cacuilo River, has so far yielded 115 carats, the company said in an update published today (15 July).

"The preparation work is well underway for accessing kimberlite L014, from which we will be
doing the necessary delineation drilling and taking bulk samples," said Nick Selby, Lucapa's CEO and managing director.

"Road construction and sample planning is progressing for the other priority targets close to the Cacuilo River. We look forward to bringing further updates to the market, as the sampling results become available."

It has selected 23 kimberlites for bulk sampling in the current phase of exploration.
