Prasad Kapre Quits De Beers Group Marketing, India
October 13, 08
Prasad Kapre, Business Director of De Beers Group Marketing in India, has quit his post with immediate effect. The news comes as a surprise for many in the market.
Kapre, who was with the DTC for over 13 years, was one of the first recruits of the organization when it set up operations in India in 1995. He headed the Diamond Promotion Service (DPS) and was responsible for establishing contacts between the company and leading Indian retailers, at a time when De Beers was an unknown quantity for most of them.
Kapre was also an integral part of the team that launched the initial Diamond Trading Company (DTC) brands and campaigns in India like the Nakshatra and Asmi, considered the primary force behind the rapid growth of India's diamond jewelry market.
“I have enjoyed every moment that I have spent with the DTC," Kapre told Jewelbiz India. "It has been a place of learning and it gave me the opportunity to perform in top gear. My experience with DTC and De Beers has been fantastic. It will always remain part of my DNA.”
Kapre plans to set up his own business and marketing strategy consultancy service for the gems and jewelry industry.
